Афиссос
Приморский поселок Афиссос находится в Пелионе и омывается Пагасийским заливом. Это место считается одним из самых красивых в Пелионе среди тех, что расположены у моря. Местные дома по большей части выполнены в традиционном архитектурном стиле. В сочетании с так называемой "островной атмосферой" Афиссос становится центром притяжения для туристов.
Когда Афиссос был основан не скажет, пожалуй, никто, но археологические раскопки показали, что найденные здесь (в районе Пиргос) артефакты относятся к глубокой древности. Это и неудивительно, ведь согласно мифу именно здесь по пути в Колхиду в поисках Золотого Руна сделал остановку Арго – мифический корабль аргонавтов. Считается, что Ясон вместе со спутниками даже пил воду из местного фонтана, который сейчас находится на главной площади деревни.
Говоря о площади, то и кроме знаменитого фонтана, тут есть чем восхититься. Это и огромные платаны, и причудливые мостики, и, конечно, главный храм Афиссоса. Храм Святой Марины был построен примерно в 1800 году. Рядом с колокольней можно увидеть небольшую часовню, которая посвящена Святой Прасковье. Если вам посчастливилось оказаться здесь 17 июня, то вы сможете принять участие в ежегодном праздновании дня Святой Марины. Как и положено – с музыкой и танцами. Две другие часовни деревни посвящены Святой Ирине и Святому Илье.
Конечно же, храмы Афиссоса не единственное, что привлекает туристов. Тут есть и пляжи. Пляж Калифери - самый ближний. Густые деревья растут тут буквально их песка, практически касаясь воды, которая, конечно же, кристально чиста. Пляж довольно мелкий, что делает его привлекательным для любителей водных видов спорта. Также тут есть немало пляжных баров, оборудованных лежаками. Другой пляж , Абовос, находится у края деревни и считается более космополитичным и баров тут еще больше.
В Афиссосе неплохо побродить по извилистым улочкам, а потом выйти на набережную, где есть множество кафе, магазинов и таверн.
Если захочется разнообразия, то отсюда можно отправиться в небольшое путешествие по окресnным деревням. Деревня Милес известна своей уникальной архитектурой и тем, что когда-то там хотели основать университет. Кстати, именно оттуда можно отправиться в путешествие по Пелиону на маленьком экскурсионном поезде Муджурис. Деревня находится всего в 11 километрах от Афиссоса. Деревня Лефокастро расположена еще ближе и славна своими пляжами.

- на машине из Волоса (26,4 км) по трассе Е034
- на автобусе из Афин до Волоса с автовокзала Кифисью, далее на местном автобусе до Афиссоса

Afissos
Washed by the Pagasetic Gulf and surrounded by lush vegetation, Afissos is considered as one of the most beautiful seaside villages of Pelion. The lovely houses, that faithfully follow the local architectural style, and the island atmosphere is the gold combination that makes Afissos a highly popular destination, especially in the summer.
Although it is not clarified when exactly Afissos was founded, the archaeological excavations brought to light remnants of the distant past (in the area Pyrgos, near the Afissos’ Delta), that indicate that the settlement had already grown in the antiquity. After all, according to the myth, Argo, the mythical ship of the Argonauts, had made a stop in Afissos, before it continues the long sail to Colchis, looking for the notorious golden fleece. Jason and his companions had even drunk water from a local fountain, which is now located in the beautiful square of the village.
Talking about the square, apart from the famous fountain, you will also be amazed by the perennial plane trees that decorate it and the two quaint bridges. Τhe lovely churches of the village also worth a visit. The church of Saint Marina, to begin with, is the central church of Afissos, built around 1800, while under the bell tower there is a small chapel, dedicated to Saint Paraskevi. If you are lucky enough to visit the village around the 17th of July, you will be able to attend the annual feast in the honor of Saint Marina, with traditional music and dances. Other lovely churches of the village are the chapels of Saint Hlias and Saint Eirini.
But let’s be honest. The churches of Afissos is not the main reason you will visit the place. The beaches is. Kallifteri and Abovos are their names and the one is better than the other. Kallifteri is the closest beach. Τowering trees literally grow in the sand, almost blanketing with their branches the waves. The sea water is crystal clear and rather shallow, ideal for sea sports, while a couple of beach bars offer tons of fun to the bathers. Abovos, on the other hand, is at the end of the sea road that begins from the village, and is rather cosmopolitan, full of beach bars, taverns and restaurants.
Wandering at the quaint cobblestone streets of the village and amazing the lovely traditional houses is another good way to spend your day - after you return from the beach and before you end up to one of the dozens taverns that offer delicious local specialties.
If you are in adventurous mood, you can also visit the villages near Afissos, such as Milies (just 11 km away) or Lefokastro which is very close, and is a very beautiful seaside settlement as well.
How to get there: By car from Athens (distance 356 km) via E75, from Volos (distance 26,4 km) via E034. By bus from Athens to Volos and then by local bus to Milies.
