Melissourgoi
Built at an altitude of 900 meters on the slopes of the mountain Tzoumerka, Melissourgoi is the northernmost village of the prefecture of Arta and the last stop-destination in a magical mountainous route through dense forests and colorful lush vegetation.

It is said that the village owes its name to the industriousness of its people, who had to live under very hard conditions(just for the record, “Melissourgoi” in English means something like “working like bee”). Excellent example of this hard working is the factory that operates in the village, that produces the very known mineral water “Tzoumerka”.

The water is a dominant element in Melissourgoi, as the village is blessed with an abundance of springs of fresh water, such as Kefalovryso, Kryoneri, Vrotopi and Agkathi. Let alone the beautiful waterfall just before the entrance of the village that will welcome you to this mountainous paradise. If you add to this the two firs forests that embrace the lovely traditional houses with the red tiled roofs, it is no wonder that Melissourgoi is considered as one of the most beautiful villages of Tzoumerka.

The Folklore Museum at the entrance of Melissourgoi, housed in a beautiful renovated historical house, the quaint square with the cafes and the taverns under the shadow of the tall trees and the lovely churches that are spread in the village are among the highlights, along with the breathtaking view you can enjoy wherever you stand.

For the nature lovers and the fans of the extreme sports, Melissourgoi is an ideal destination also thanks to the very organized Mountain Lodge Melissourgon (http://katafigiomelissourgwn.blogspot.gr/), which is located a few kilometers away. Perched at an altitude of 1023 meters, the shelter suggests a variety of unique experiences to the adventurous visitors, such as trekking, climbing and hiking, while it can also offers a pleasant stay, throughout the year. Especially during the summer, you can also choose to camp in the amazing firs forest that surrounds the shelter.

Do not leave Melissourgoi without taking with you (apart from plenty of photographs and lovely memories) a variety of local products, such as honey, wine, raki, traditional sweets and herbs.
